Alexandru 和 Bianca 是布加勒斯特一所计算机科学高中的学生,他们在上课和写作业的间隙,做出了一台能真正运转的雷达原型机。 Alexandru and Bianca are students at a computer science high school in Bucharest, and they built a working radar prototype between classes and homework.

我是在 LEAP East 认识他们的,那是本地区规模最大的科技展会之一,他们作为入选参展方,与自筹资金的初创公司和成熟企业同场展出。 I met them at LEAP East, one of the major expos in the region, where they were selected exhibitors alongside self-funded startups and established companies.

做这款产品的想法,最开始、最早是从哪里来的? Where did the idea of building this product come from, initially, at the very beginning?

因为你们还在读高中,很多人会觉得,你们这个阶段应该专心学业、专心读书。 Because you're still in high school, and a lot of people would say you should still be focusing on academics, on studying.

但你们却决定去做一款产品,还一路飞到香港,参加一场大型展会。 But you decided to build a product, and then fly all the way to Hong Kong to attend a big expo.

我们就是在那里认识的。那么,这一切背后的契机是什么? That's where we met. So what was the inspiration behind all of that?

其实,它并不是从某一个具体的瞬间开始的。也不是因为家里有了某个孩子。我们家里并没有婴儿。 Well, it didn't start with one specific moment. And it didn't start with a specific baby in our family either. We don't have any babies in our family.

它更像是始于一个矛盾,而我们越是深入去看婴儿监护这个行业,这个矛盾就越明显。 It started more with a contradiction, one that became more and more obvious the more we looked at the baby monitoring industry.

我们注意到,市面上已有的婴儿监护器,本应是用来缓解焦虑的,但它们大多要么用可穿戴设备贴在婴儿身上,要么用摄像头 24 小时不间断地拍摄婴儿。 We noticed that the baby monitors already on the market are supposed to reduce anxiety, but most of them either use wearables attached to the baby, or cameras that record the baby 24/7.

于是我们开始追问:这项技术能提供的,就只有这些吗,还是可以有更多? And we began asking whether that technology could offer only that, or something more.

我们继续往下挖,发现我们可以用雷达,这是绝大多数婴儿监护器都没有采用的一种技术。 We looked further, and we noticed that we could use radar, a technology that most baby monitors don't use.

挺好的。我能想象,一边读高中一边创业有多难。这个问题也许想请 Alex 回答,因为你是 CEO:到目前为止,在创业这件事上,最艰难的时刻是什么? That's great. I can imagine building a company as a high school student is hard. Maybe a question for Alex, since you're the CEO: what has been the hardest moment so far in trying to start a company?

最艰难的一段时期之一,是在 LEAP East 之前。我们入选了一场国际科技展会,对我们来说是一个重大的机会。 One of the hardest periods was before LEAP East. We had been selected to take part in an international technology event, which was a major opportunity for us.

但“入选”本身,并没有解决我们实际的困难。我们仍然要自己承担飞往香港的费用、准备参展的物料,同时还要继续打磨原型机。 But the selection itself did not solve our practical problems. We still needed to cover the cost of travelling to Hong Kong, prepare the materials for the event, and keep working on the prototype.

与此同时,原型机的功能和完成度,都还达不到我们想要的程度。于是我们同时面对着资金的不确定、技术的不确定,以及非常紧迫的时间。 At the same time, the prototype was not as functional or as polished as we wanted it to be. So we had financial uncertainty, technical uncertainty, and very little time.

于是我们开始联系各家公司和机构,向他们介绍这个项目,请求他们的支持。 So we began contacting companies and organizations, explaining the project and asking them for support.

后来有两家罗马尼亚公司,NXP 和 Rodecin Motors,在资金上帮助了我们,这才让我们得以参展。 And two Romanian companies, NXP and Rodecin Motors, helped us financially, which allowed us to take part in the event.

但即便拿到了那笔钱,我们身上的压力依然很大,因为我们知道,我们必须拿出比“一个愿景”更实在的东西。 But even after securing that money, we were still under a lot of pressure, because we knew we needed to present something more than just a vision.

而这一点,我们必须完全坦诚地面对。在那之前,我们一直以为,最难的部分是找到正确的技术方案。 And we had to be completely honest about that. Before, we had thought the hardest part would be finding the right technical solution.

但事实上,最难的,是在你并没有十足把握的情况下,仍然要不断做出决定。 But in reality, the hardest part is continuing to make decisions while you don't have complete certainty.

这个项目差一点就没能成,因为对我们来说,停下来其实更容易。 The project almost didn't happen, because it would have been easier for us to stop.

而你们竟然说服了他们,在整个过程中支持你们。 And you managed to convince them to support you through the process.

很好。那你们给我们描绘一下画面吧。我想更深入地了解这个行业里“婴儿哭闹”这个问题,但我并不是专家。 Nice. So paint the picture for us. I want to understand more about the problem in this industry around a crying baby, but I'm not an expert.

你们才是。所以请为听众、也为我描绘一下:假设凌晨三点,一个婴儿在哭,旁边是一位父母,一位新手父母。 You are. So paint the picture for the audience and for me. Let's say a baby is crying at 3 a.m., and there's a parent, a new parent.

假设他们此前从未面对过一个哭闹的婴儿。 Let's say they've never dealt with a crying baby before.

那一刻究竟发生了什么?为什么父母那么难读懂孩子、那么难去照顾他? What is actually happening, and why is it so hard for parents to understand the baby and take care of them?

在凌晨三点,父母不可能冷静地、分析式地去面对这件事。 Well, at 3 in the morning, the parent is not approaching the situation calmly and analytically.

那一夜他们可能已经醒过好几次了,他们精疲力尽,却要为一个说不出哪里不舒服的孩子负责。 They may already have been awake several times that night, they're exhausted, and they're responsible for a child who cannot explain what is wrong.

而当婴儿在夜里开始哭时,父母会去看监护器。 And when the baby begins crying during the night, the parent checks the monitor.

监护器确认了“婴儿在哭”,可这并不是什么新信息。 The monitor confirms that the baby is crying, but this is not new information.

父母早就被哭声吵醒了。视频画面或许能看到婴儿在动,但它依然解释不了原因。 The parent has already been woken by the sound. And the video feed may show the baby moving, but it still doesn't explain the cause.

于是,父母自然而然地开始在脑子里过一遍清单。 And then, of course, the parent begins running through a checklist in their mind.

是饿了吗?是尿布不舒服吗?是房间太热了吗? Is the baby hungry? Is the diaper uncomfortable? Is the room too warm?

是困了却睡不着吗?而这些可能性,在一开始看上去、听上去都差不多。 Is the baby tired but unable to fall asleep? And most of those possibilities look and sound similar at first.

但真正折磨人的,是那份不确定。到了夜里,大多数人都已疲惫不堪,连自己的直觉和判断都不再相信。 But the emotional difficulty comes from uncertainty. At night, most people are exhausted, and they stop trusting their own instincts and judgment.

这就是为什么,父母在夜里很难弄明白孩子究竟为什么哭。 And that's why it becomes so hard for parents to understand why the baby is crying at night.

因为夜里,你本该是在睡觉的。而被孩子吵醒、再花上两三个小时去哄他,这对父母来说毫无帮助。 Because at night you're supposed to be sleeping, of course. And it doesn't help at all to be woken by your child and spend maybe two or three hours trying to calm the baby down.

这基本上就是他们如此艰难的原因。 And that's mainly why it's so hard for them.

你们其实做过调研,真的去和父母聊过,对吗? And you've actually done research, talking to real parents, right?

嘉宾 Alexandru & Bianca 11:40

是的,我们在布加勒斯特,在我们身边的圈子和社区里,和一些父母做过调研。 Yes, we've done some research with parents in our ecosystem, in our community, in Bucharest.

而他们大多数人,并没有就产品本身问我们太多问题。 And most of them didn't ask us many questions about the product.

我们告诉他们,这是一款使用新技术的产品,用的是雷达。 We told them it's a product that uses a new technology, radar.

他们对雷达感到担忧。他们此前没接触过它,除非是在军用设备或者飞机的语境里听说过。 They were worried about the radar. They hadn't heard of it before, except in the context of military equipment or aircraft.

他们当然会担心。他们担心辐射,以及和辐射相关的种种问题。 And of course they were worried. They were worried about radiation and things related to it.

除此之外,和父母交谈的过程中,真正让你们意外的是什么? Besides that, what do you think actually surprised you about talking to parents?

关于他们所面临问题的角度,什么最让你们感到意外? What surprised you most about the angle of the problem they're facing?

一些你们原本没有预料到的东西。 Something you didn't expect.

嘉宾 Alexandru & Bianca 12:47

最让人意外的一点是,正如 Bianca 所说,他们并不见得想要更多的信息。 One of the most surprising things was that, as Bianca said, they didn't necessarily ask for more information.

他们把我们拉回到一个更朴素的诉求上。他们不想把自己的夜晚,耗在看图表、刷通知上。 They brought us back to a simpler concern. They did not want to spend their nights interpreting graphs and checking notifications.

他们希望这款产品自己去判断什么是有意义的,并且只在必要的时候才开口。 They wanted the product to determine what was meaningful, and to communicate only when necessary.

有些父母告诉我们,视频画面其实会变成一种强迫症,因为画面随时都在,他们会忍不住反复去看,哪怕什么事都没有。 Some parents told us that a video feed can actually become compulsive, because the feed is always available and they feel tempted to check it repeatedly, even when nothing is wrong.

还有一些人则很不安:在家里如此私密的一个角落,也就是婴儿房里,放着一台联网的摄像头。 And others were uncomfortable with the idea of a connected camera being present in such a private part of the home, the nursery.

但我们还了解到,情绪上的负担,并不只来自对重大意外的恐惧。 But we also learned that the emotional problem is not limited to the fear of major incidents.

有很大一部分压力,来自那些细小的不确定,而它们每晚都在重复。 A large amount of stress comes from small uncertainties, repeated every night.

宝宝睡得正常吗?他为什么又醒了? Is the baby sleeping normally? Why did the baby wake up again?

房间是不是不舒服?这些听上去或许都算不上大问题。 Is the room uncomfortable? Those may not sound like major problems.

但一夜又一夜地重复下去,它们足以改变父母和孩子相处的全部体验。 But repeated night after night, they can change the parents' entire experience with their baby.

那你们有没有研究过市面上已有的解决方案、已有的产品? And have you looked at the existing solutions on the market, the existing products?

你们觉得,你们的产品比它们好在哪里? And how do you think your product is better than theirs?

以及,这个行业目前的空白在哪里? And what are the current gaps in the industry?

你之所以会好奇“为什么至今没有人解决这个问题”, The first reason you might wonder why nobody has solved this problem so far,

“为什么至今没有人用这项技术”,第一个原因是:摄像头和可穿戴设备,在技术上都是很直接的路径。 why nobody has used this technology so far, is that cameras and wearables are technically straightforward approaches.

举例来说,摄像头很便宜。人们熟悉它,而且它能采集到大量的信息。 For instance, cameras are inexpensive. They're familiar, and they're capable of collecting a large amount of information.

传输和显示视频所需的基础设施也早就存在。从产品开发的角度看,它是一个显而易见的方案。 And the infrastructure for transmitting and displaying video already exists. From a product development perspective, it is an obvious solution.

可穿戴设备同样能提供相对直接的测量数据,因为它们始终贴着婴儿的身体。 Wearables also provide relatively direct measurements, because they are in continuous contact with the baby's body.

但它们也给父母带来了别的麻烦。比如,你得记得给孩子戴上、记得充电,还要确保它始终贴在正确的位置上。 But they also introduce other challenges for parents. For example, they have to remember to attach them, to keep them charged, and to make sure they stay positioned correctly on the baby.

而且有些父母,并不愿意在熟睡的婴儿身上,再放一件东西、一台电子设备。 And some parents may dislike placing another object, a technological device, on a sleeping baby.

因为婴儿的皮肤很敏感,夜里可能会被磨得发红发痒。 Because babies have sensitive skin, and it might become irritated during the night.

而非接触式感测,也就是我们打算采用的方式,难度要大得多,因为雷达数据不会像摄像头那样,直接以一张图像的形式呈现。系统必须把婴儿的动作,从环境噪声中区分出来。 And non-contact sensing, which is what we plan to use, is harder, because radar data does not arrive as a simple image the way camera data does. The system has to distinguish the baby's motion from environmental noise.

比如另一个人的走动,或者位置的变化。而要理解更完整的情况,雷达还需要和声音、环境信息结合起来。 The movement of another person, or changes in position. And then, to understand the broader situation, radar needs to be combined with audio and environmental information.

此外还有一个市场教育的问题:摄像头,人们一看就懂。 And there is also a market education problem, meaning that people can easily understand a camera.

他们以前接触过摄像头,对它很熟悉。可当我们一提到雷达,有些人脑子里立刻浮现的,是军用设备、机场系统,以及危险的辐射。 They've encountered cameras before. They're familiar with them. But when we mention radar, some people immediately imagine military equipment, airport systems, and dangerous radiation.

所以,解释清楚非接触式雷达感测,要比解释摄像头或可穿戴设备费力得多。 So explaining non-contact radar sensing takes much more effort than explaining a camera or a wearable.

我们还有一个优势:起步时,我们并没有一个既有产品需要去保护。 We also had the advantage of starting without an existing product to protect.

所以我们可以先问:理想的体验应该是什么样?然后再去探索实现它所需要的技术,而不必受制于一家已有的公司。 So we could ask what the ideal experience should be, and then explore the technology required to create it, without being tied to an established company.

主持人 Gavin 17:43

我明白了。所以你们基本上认为,这个行业传统上对摄像头的依赖,存在很多问题。 I see. So you basically think the industry's traditional reliance on cameras has a lot of problems.

它成本高,感觉像是在监视,而且几乎没有隐私可言。 It's expensive. It feels like surveillance. There isn't a lot of privacy.

于是你们决定用雷达作为另一条路径,也许是更好的一条路径,去监护婴儿,并为父母提供一些分析性的洞察,帮他们理解宝宝为什么会哭。 And you decided to use radar as an alternative, and maybe a better way, to monitor the baby and give parents some analytical insight into why the baby might be crying.

那么,在没有摄像头、没有图像的前提下,雷达究竟采集的是什么样的信息? So what kind of information goes into the radar, given there are no cameras and no images?

一切都由雷达来完成。你们可能还会采集婴儿周围的一些环境数据。 Everything is done by the radar. You might also gather some environmental data around the baby.

但我只是想象不出来,你们究竟怎么用雷达去“看”一个婴儿,却既不拍摄他、也不碰到他。 But I'm just trying to picture how you use radar to "see" a baby without filming them or touching them.

嘉宾 Alexandru & Bianca 18:39

那我们打个比方。雷达的作用,就像一套极其灵敏的距离测量系统。 So let's make a comparison. A radar acts like an extremely sensitive distance-measuring system.

它向被监测的区域发射一段无线电信号。信号碰到物体后反射回来,回到传感器。 It transmits a radio signal toward the area being monitored. That signal reflects off objects and returns to the sensor.

当婴儿的胸口随着呼吸起伏时,这个距离就会发生极其微小的变化。 When the baby's chest moves during breathing, the distance changes by a very small amount.

这些变化会影响反射回来的信号。雷达记录下这些细微的波动,软件再去分析:它们是否构成了一种与呼吸动作相符的、重复出现的规律。 Those changes affect the reflected signal. The radar records these variations, and the software analyzes whether they form a repeated pattern consistent with breathing-related motion.

摄像头生成的是一格一格的像素,人一眼就能认出那是婴儿、是一张脸、是一个房间。而雷达产生的,是信号数据。 A camera creates a grid of pixels that a human can recognize as a baby, a face, or a room. Radar produces signal data.

软件能看出“在某个距离上,有东西发生了极其轻微的移动”,但它看不到婴儿衣服的颜色,也看不到婴儿房里都有些什么东西。 The software may see that something moved by a very small amount at a particular distance, but it does not see the color of the baby's clothes, or what objects are in the nursery.

用雷达真正难的地方,并不是“检测到有东西在动”,而是把我们真正关心的那个动作,从其他所有动静里分辨出来。 The difficult part of using radar is not simply detecting movement, but distinguishing the movement we care about from everything else.

父母可能会走近婴儿床,婴儿可能会翻身,毯子可能会移动,婴儿相对设备的位置也可能改变。 A parent may approach the crib, the baby may turn over, a blanket may move, the position of the baby relative to the device may change.

这就是为什么,信号处理和验证对我们来说极其重要。 That is why signal processing and validation are extremely important to us.

这个物理原理本身早就存在,也已经用在别的场景里了。 The physical principle already exists, and has been used in other applications.

我们要做的,是负责任地把它迁移到婴儿监护这个场景中来。 Our work is to adapt it responsibly to the baby monitoring environment.

我们目前仍处在研发和验证阶段。我们不想给人一种错觉,好像把一个雷达模块装进外壳,就自动等于做出了一台成品的呼吸监护仪。 We are still in the development and validation process. We don't want to imply that putting a radar module in an enclosure automatically creates a finished breathing monitor.

显然,父母对雷达技术的了解,远不如你们。 So parents obviously don't know as much about radar technology as you do.

而且很多时候他们并不理性,尤其是在听到孩子哭的时候。 And a lot of the time they're not rational, especially when they hear a baby cry.

很多时候父母在意得不得了,他们是真的把孩子放在心尖上。 A lot of the time parents care enormously, they really care about their baby.

他们不愿意冒任何风险,哪怕辐射出问题的可能性只有 1%。 They're not willing to risk anything, even if there's only a 1% chance of a radiation issue.

那你们会怎么去说服一位父母使用你们的产品,怎么告诉他们“这是安全的”? So how would you try to convince a parent to adopt your product, and tell them that it's safe?

首先,我们上网查了资料,发现雷达的辐射,比太阳的辐射低一百倍,比一个 Wi-Fi 模块低一千倍。 So first of all, we searched online, and we found that a radar's radiation is a hundred times lower than the radiation from the sun, and a thousand times lower than a Wi-Fi module.

而每个家庭都有 Wi-Fi 模块。所以婴儿其实一直都暴露在那样的辐射之下。 And every house has a Wi-Fi module. So the baby is already exposed to that radiation all the time.

而我们的设备,辐射还要比它低一千倍。所以,就是这样。 And our device emits a thousand times less than that. So, yeah.

父母会花更少的时间去主动盯着看,而花更多的时间去相信:真有什么值得注意的事发生时,这个系统会开口告诉他。 Well, the parent spends less time actively monitoring, and more time trusting that the system will speak up when something meaningful happens.

父母收到的,可能是这样一条提醒:宝宝已经哭了多长时间,房间温度上升了,而这次的哭声模式,更像是不舒服或者饿了。 A parent might receive an alert explaining that the baby has been crying for a certain period, that the room temperature has risen, and that the crying pattern looks more consistent with discomfort or hunger.

又或者,系统注意到宝宝的睡眠状态和平常明显不同,于是建议父母过去看一看。 Or the system might notice that the baby's sleep behavior differs significantly from the normal pattern, and advise the parent to check on the situation.

而做决定的,依然是父母。Cumulus 不会取代照护、判断,也不会取代医疗建议。 And the parent would still make the decision. Cumulus would not replace care, judgment, or medical advice.

只是,出发点不再是“一无所知”。这款产品还可以变得个性化。 But the starting point would no longer be complete uncertainty. The product could also become personalized.

它不必只依赖普遍规律,而是可以逐渐摸清:对这一个宝宝而言,什么才叫“正常”。 Instead of relying only on general patterns, it could gradually learn what is normal for that particular baby.

而最重要的是,父母不必为了换取这份帮助,就交出全家人的隐私。 And most importantly, the parent would not have to surrender the family's privacy in order to get that support.

对我们来说,成功并不是父母每晚打开 App 二十次。 For us, success does not mean the parent opening the app 20 times every night.

成功意味着,父母能睡得更踏实,因为他们相信:需要开口的时候,这个产品一定会开口。 Success means the parent sleeps more confidently, because they trust that the product will speak up when it needs to.

它可能意味着开创一个“隐私优先”的新品类,做出有价值到足以成为行业标准的技术,或者打造出某一群父母最信赖的那款产品。 It might mean creating a new privacy-first category, developing technology valuable enough to become a standard, or building the product that one specific group of parents trusts most.

它最终也可能是与更大的公司合作,而不是和它们每一家硬碰硬。 It may eventually involve partnerships with larger companies, rather than head-on competition with every one of them.

因为创业公司之所以能赢,往往不是因为起步时资源更多,而是因为他们在成熟市场彻底反应过来之前,就察觉到了客户价值取向的变化。 Because startups often win not because they start with more resources, but because they notice a shift in what customers value before the established market fully reacts.

系统的各个部件我们都有了,技术架构也很清晰,但我们的下一个里程碑,是证明这台完整的设备,能作为一个产品稳定地运转。 We have the individual parts of the system and a clear technical architecture, but our next milestone would be to prove that the complete device works consistently as one product.

而这当然需要资金:用于硬件研发、测试、增加传感器、外壳迭代、软件开发、认证规划、数据采集,等等。 And that, of course, requires funding for hardware development, for testing, for additional sensors, for enclosure iterations, for software development, certification planning, data collection, and so on.

但光有钱当然不够。我们是高中生,我们需要在雷达信号处理和嵌入式系统方面有经验的技术导师,他们能帮我们避开数月的弯路,以及架构上错误的假设。 But money alone is, of course, not enough. We are high school students, and we need technical mentors with experience in radar signal processing and embedded systems, who can help us avoid months of mistakes and wrong assumptions in the architecture.

而一款面向消费者的产品,最终必须做得更小、更紧凑、更高效、更可靠,并且在成本上可持续、可量产。 But a consumer product eventually has to become smaller, more compact, more efficient, more reliable, and economically sustainable and manufacturable.

所以简短的回答是:我们需要的是一整个生态,而不是某一次神奇的引荐。 So the short answer is that we need an ecosystem, rather than one magical introduction.

资金能让我们往前走,但真正决定我们走的方向对不对的,是合适的导师、顾问、测试伙伴,以及制造端的合作关系。 Funding lets us move, but the right mentors, advisors, testing partners, and manufacturing relationships are what determine whether we move in the right direction.

他们大概确实还不够懂,做不出产品,也开不了公司。但我们当初也是这样。 They probably don't know enough to develop their product or start their company. But that was our case too.

我们起步的时候懂得也不够,很多方面到现在依然不够。但这不是等待的理由。 We didn't know enough when we began, and in many areas we still don't. But that is not a reason to wait.

这恰恰是开始学习的理由。你不必一上来就注册公司、融资,或者做出你想法的最终版本。 It is a reason to begin learning. You don't need to start by founding a company, raising money, or building the final version of your idea.

从一个能产出真实信息的小动作开始:去和一个真正经历这个问题的人聊聊,做一个非常简单的原型,给一个比你懂得更多的人发一条消息。 Start with a small step that produces real information: talk to one person who experiences the problem, build a very simple prototype, send a message to someone who knows more than you.

我们绝大部分的进展,都来自于在“还没觉得完全准备好”的时候就动手去做。 A large part of our progress came from doing things before we felt completely ready.

年轻意味着,有些人会低估你。他们会以为这个项目不过是一次学校作业,或者觉得你很快就会失去兴趣。 Being young means some people will underestimate you. They may assume the project is only a school exercise, or that you'll lose interest.

但年轻同样会让一些人更愿意教你、把你引荐给某个人,或者在你迈出最初几步时拉你一把,前提是他们能看出你是认真的、愿意下功夫的。 But being young can also make people more willing to teach you, introduce you to someone, or support your first steps, provided they can see that you are serious and willing to work.

你不需要假装自己在这个领域已经是专家了。 You don't need to pretend that you are already an expert in your field.

事实上,假装有时候是非常危险的。要看清楚:你已经做出了什么,你还在做什么,以及你还需要学什么。 In fact, pretending is sometimes very dangerous. See clearly what you have built, what you're still developing, and what you still need to learn.

目标不是在开始之前就懂得一切。目标是学得足够快,快到明年那个还在做这件事的你,远比当初起步的那个你更有能力。 The goal is not to know everything before you begin. The goal is to learn fast enough that the version of you working on the idea next year is far more capable than the version who started it.
